Wildlife Enthusiasts

We see wildlife enthusiasts as being anyone who enjoys watching and experiencing marine wildlife from the shore and above the sea. We understand that this can range from those who take a trip out on a whale or seal watching trip to those who regularly watch for dolphins and sea birds from cliff tops. We have also included those who have a more general interest in the sea and wildlife and those that like to explore rock pools. Marine Protected Areas are almost inevitably going to enhance the experience of wildlife enthusiasts.

We want to record the location of sites which are noted for their value to marine wildlife, so we ensure this is detailed within our design and selection model. As with most of the other stakeholder groups we will record this information through questionnaires and mapping exercises.

It is important to recognise that although many wildlife enthusiasts may enjoy watching sea birds nesting around cliffs and rocky outcrops our project area only extends as far as high water mark. However, there is obviously a very strong link between the health of the marine life and those more land based species which depend on it.

We will work with wildlife organisations to ensure that as many people as possible know about the Finding Sanctuary project, understand what it is doing and are able to engage and input their information, knowledge and opinions. The Finding Sanctuary website and interactive WebGIS will play an important role in gathering this information. Marine conservation interests are represented on the Steering Group.
